Cool Chemistry:
Rockers Find Formula as Trio
They say they're the band that's
never been stumped.
"There's no limit to what we do, except
bluegrass," said Gary Brandt, guitarist and lead singer.
The trio of 50-something musicians is as diverse as its music.
Brandt is a hypnotherapist who lives in Effort.
Tommy Vulcano — yes, that's his real name
— is a school custodian who has played drums in the Pocono’s
for 30 years.
But he's been together with Brandt and bassist Chip
Bush, a computer geek, for only six months. They met through other
musicians and discovered their "immediate chemistry."
"We just knew we
wanted to do something together," Brandt said.
They know hundreds of songs and
never plan out their act.
"We're known for our spontaneous medleys," said
Brandt. "With a look from each other we shift from one song into the
other."
The band becomes multi-generational when Brandt's son, Ben, 17, sits
in on guitar.
The guys clearly have a blast
together, whether they're playing classic rock or Johnny Cash.
Chip Bush calls Vulcano a
"great drummer" and Brandt a "monster guitar player and
singer."
"We have lots of fun," Bush said. "That's the
main thing."
